Birds of the feather

I was determined to stay away from blogging until my examinations were over, but obviously I could not resist. Why? I noticed the most curious shift in Tembusu’s demographics at the dinner hall today. It almost appears as if the racial mix in Tembusu was changed overnight. There seems to be a flocking of some migratory birds, which, until the recent examination period, was not as pronounced as it is now.

I am not sure whether this flocking is seasonal, or if these birds had actually settled more permanently, but were simply invisible for most of the semester. (Or that I am imagining things…) I am betting on the former. There clearly is an influx of them in the commons and other study areas in uTown. It’s very strange that so many of them should appear altogether and all at once, but from what I see they are evidently living up to their industrious reputation.

Of course by now you also would have realized that this was a completely useless observation… but if you had taken a break from studying just to read this, then I am glad that you had indulged in these two minutes of uselessness as I did. Now get back to mugging, you.

Note to self: Do not panic.

I can't believe it's week 13 already! How ominous. I don't think I'll be updating this blog for at least a week or two.

Study smart, everyone.

Lift upgrade

Apparently our elevators in Tembusu have been upgraded to recognise voice commands. At the moment I can't actually tell if it's an April Fool's joke or not, but let's assume it's not. Quite a few people in Tembusu's facebook group said it has worked for them even though the lift didn't respond to my calling when I tried.

That aside, I wonder if there even is a point to installing such a function to a lift. Sure, it is great that I don't even have to lift a finger to get to my floor now; but all the effort I do save, if any at all, is literally just the lifting of my finger. I really can't understand how that can be considered a convenience, especially when it also happens to come at the cost of looking like a lunatic.

I suppose one could rationlise it and say that the voice recognition function frees one's hands to carry the piles of notes and stuff that an undergrad might be expected to carry... but, then again, we still have to scan our access cards before that (using our hands, of course) to activate the lift anyway.

So that brings us back to the question: what is the point? Perhaps the college is really just trying to find new ways for students to interact with technology? You know, what with the hugging of coke machines and talking to lifts...

Okay, never mind that. Forget I even tried. Have a good week folks.

Ha, so it was an April Fool's joke. Nicely played.
