Grease: a Short Review

Last night I watched Grease and I must say that it did not disappoint. Of course, the show was not without its flaws – which, mind you, were in abundance – but, they did make up for it with a good dose of fun and humour. I'd say that it was a job well done, especially since it was Tembusu's first stage production.

But praises aside, I actually think that this musical, as with the lipdub, were projects could have had been a lot better done if they weren't so incredibly overambitious... even though they turned out pretty decent. It seems many details and difficulties were overlooked in pursuing these projects. Maybe it's a combination of inexperience and a lack of foresight? To me, it was a bit reckless to jump into such a big project without thoroughly thinking it through beforehand. It takes the kind of ignorant bravery that rests on the fine line between laudable and laughable. Yet, these guys did pull it off in the end, so I suppose for that small victory they should be commended at least for dreaming big.

On the brighter note, I think the quality of the college's showcases would improve in successive productions, particularly since the college now has some experience and benchmarks to refer to. All we need to hope for is more people with crazy ideas.
