So, Open Day was last Saturday. I've really been looking forward to it, because I think it's the only time so far when most of the college seems to rally together. Also it's a chance for the new CSC to shine, if they do. The last open house was pretty successful, although there had been many organizational hiccups that could have been improved on.
Anyway, I must say that this year's Open Day was a job well done! I think it was a lot more organized than the last. One key difference is that there was evidently better communication within the organizing committee, so kudos there. Perhaps the communication with the helpers could be tightened up a bit though. One thing that did impress me was how well the helpers looked after. Lunch, snacks and bubble tea were provided for the student volunteers. I recall the organizing committee also tried implement shift rotation for the tour guides (I'm not sure about the other positions) to make sure they wouldn't be burned out.
It was also good to see some IGs 'revived'. Like K-pop for example, which seemed to have been out of action for the whole semester. I think it was also the first time I've seen the TCrew (Hip-hop dancers) put on a display. There were also musical performances, as well as dances from the Grease cast.
There were actually few nitty gritty details of which I though could be improved, but overall it was a good effort. On a side note, I thought the Fellows could have been more involved in Open Day. There were a few Fellows helping out/ supporting the event, but I reckon there's room for more involvement somehow. Or at least ways for more Fellows to be involved. It's a good opportunity for Fellows to mingle with the residents. Perhaps more on that next time.
And one more thing! I'm not sure whose initiative it was, but a temporary shelter was erected over the pathway connecting the Learn Lobe and the Education Resource Centre (ERC). Maybe it was shelter from the sun, or possible rain, or both... My question is why isn't there permanent shelter there?
